MVUUF Chalicelight Gallery

The walls of the sanctuary of Miami Valley UU Fellowship offer space to display 2-dimensional art by local artists, both members of the Fellowship and from the community at large. There are approximately ten exhibits each year, rotating among photography, paintings in various media, and fabric art. The art provides a colorful and dynamic addition to the worship experience. The Fellowship receives a small commission on any work sold. We are always looking for artists to display their work.

The current artist:

Photography by Jay Snively

All images on display were made from film with a 35mm SLR, 2 1/4 twin lens reflex, or 4 x 5 view camera. The black and white prints were developed with the common silver-gelatin process. Most photos were taken in Southwest and Southern Ohio, with a few from the Outer Banks of North Carolina and Utah.

When asked recently for the meaning of and motivation behind his subject matter, Jay responded with a far away yet thoughtful look, seemingly indicating careful consideration to compose an articulate and eloquent explanation replete with deep philosophical implications involving spirituality, the interconnectedness of art and humanity, and technical aspects linking his artwork to world peace, when in reality he was simply distracted by something shiny.

MVUUF member Jay Snively graduated from Ohio Institute of Photography in 1990 with a degree in commercial photography. At OIP he earned Outstanding Graduate and Outstanding Portfolio awards. He has been a Bellbrook resident for at least his whole life and enjoys spending time at his and Ann's second home in the woods observing nature, classical music, Scrabble, building things, sniping on eBay, spending time with friends, and using the serial comma.
