Workshop Rotations for grades K-5th

YRE children Workshop Rotation is a curriculum model based on Howard Gardner's theory that people possess multiple intelligences. Each month a theme will be explored in a variety of ways such as music, art, science, games, and more. This semester, January through May 2010, our focus is guided by our pillar Social Justice and Action. Each month, our themes are based from the pillar. Each class will have an opportunity to participate in each week’s workshop. This semester our themes for each month are based on books. Our books and topics for this semester are:

  • Rhinos and Raspberries, tales of tolerance
  • Ethical Eating at MVUUF by YRE program, ethical eating
  • The Lorax by Dr. Seuss, earth awareness
  • And Tango Makes Three by Peter Parnell & Justin Richardson, diversity competence
  • One Smile by Cindy McKinley, random acts of kindness
YRE children There are three workshop rotation classes:
  • Kindergarten & 1st grades: Explorers-green class (begin in service at 11:00am)
  • 2nd & 3rd grades: Navigators-blue class (begin in service at 11:00am)
  • 4th & 5th grades: Searchers-yellow class (begin in service at 11:00am)

*Children begin in service on workshop rotation Sundays. After Words for All Ages, children will be sung out of the sanctuary and will follow their classroom guides to the workshop. Children will know who their guide is by the color of the guides' flag. K-1st follow the green flag, 2nd -3rd follow the blue, and 4th-5th follow the yellow. They will have the same two guides for their class all semester long!

ALL CLASSES END AT 12:15pm
ALL grades in workshop rotations MUST have parent/guardian pick up child from class.

The second Sunday through the fourth (or fifth) Sunday of each month, workshop classes will meet. The calendar (below) is a chart of what classes will be in which workshop each week as well as what classroom.
