Reverend Amy Russell
As minister of Miami Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, I welcome you. MVUUF is a welcoming, caring, and diverse community where people are encouraged to follow their own spiritual journey. When you come to Sunday services, you may hear about one of the world's religions, about topics on personal growth and development, about spirituality, or a social justice topic. Every Sunday is different. Most often our services are similar to a Protestant service with hymns, readings, and a sermon. But you will not be told what to believe or how to live your life. Hopefully, you will be inspired to consider thinking about an issue in a different way than you had previously.
Most importantly, however, you will begin to become acquainted with our community. At MVUUF, there are many activities in which you can participate. There's always a social event or a spiritual or educational experience going on. Through these activities you can get to know some of the members. That is when you'll start having an experience of Beloved Community.
I first visited here as a person seeking a spiritual community. I found at MVUUF a place where I could develop my own spirituality within a diverse community. During the time I was a member, I experienced a tragedy in my own life. This caring community offered me a safe haven while I healed. My experience here led me to seek the ministry so that I could help create the Beloved Community for others. After several years doing ministry elsewhere, I returned to MVUUF a year ago, having been called by this congregation as their minister.
Since Unitarian Universalists welcome people of every race, creed, age, sexual orientation, political affiliation, and physical ability, we hope you will find a place here where you are welcomed and cared for. Beloved Community means each of us offering our highest and best selves to each other in loving trust. It means that we will be challenged to grow in relationship with others.
We welcome you and invite you to come visit us anytime.
