Summer Fun in YRE
Please use our new online form to register your child or children for our Youth Religious Education (YRE) program. Fall classes begin Sunday, September 14.
Join us for the summer months of June, July, and August as we explore nature, discuss what it means to be "green," and play lots of games.
The first Sunday of each month is Children's Worship, children in grades preschool-5th meet in our Founder's Room at 11am.
Children will be ready for pick up at 12:15pm in the same room, except Pre-schoolers who can be picked up in the Preschool classroom at the end of the YRE hallway.
All other Sundays, children are invited to join the adults in the sanctuary at 11am to enjoy a special time in our service called "Words for All Ages."
Afterward, they will be escorted out to the Founder's Room and Preschool Rooms where parents can pick them up at 12:15pm.
2014-2015 Classes begin September 14, 2014 and go through May 31, 2015
Preschool - Chalice Children
Based on the premise that children learn best through experience, this program helps nurture spiritual growth, creativity and a sense of community through imaginative activities and rituals such as rhymes and fingerplays.
The preschool class meets every Sunday, except Multi-gen service days. They start out in Children's Worship on the first Sunday of each month and in the sanctuary on every other Sunday.
K-2nd Grade Class - Creating Home
"This class introduces the concept of a 'faith home' — our congregation — which shares some characteristics with a family home. Like a family home, a faith home offers its members certain joys, protections, and responsibilities.. . .children will explore the deep sense of sacredness, the beauty of hospitality, and the gift of loving relationships that a home can represent. As participants actively explore the concept of home, they will create a community home in our meeting space."
K-2nd meets every Sunday except the first of the month and Multi-gen service days. They start out in the sanctuary and are sung out after Words for All Ages.
3rd-5th Grade Class - Windows and Mirrors
"Windows and Mirrors nurtures children's ability to identify their own experiences and perspectives and to seek out, care about and respect those of others. The sessions unpack topics that lend themselves to diverse experiences and perspectives—for example, faith heritage, public service, anti-racism and prayer. The program teaches that there are always multiple viewpoints and everyone's viewpoint matters. The metaphor of windows and mirrors represents the dynamic relationship among our awareness of self, our perceptions of others, and others' perceptions of us."
3rd-5th meets every Sunday except the first of the month and Multi-gen service days. They start out in the sanctuary and are sung out after Words for All Ages.
6th-12th Grade Class - Heeding the Call: Qualities of a Justice Maker
"Heeding the Call is a social justice curriculum that not only explores linked oppressions in our society, but also encourages participants towards personal growth in values that counteract the marginalization of others. Workshops on empathy, courage, abundance, joy, and other qualities ask participants to recognize how these standards can be tools for justice. Additionally, the program includes more concrete tools, such as suggestions on how to be a good ally and tips on the language of conflict resolution. True stories of courage, sacrifice and collaboration, role-plays, games, and a program-long justice project will feed youth's rising realization that as people of faith we are all called to love justice—not just with our words, but also with our deeds."
6th-12th Class meets every Sunday. They start out in the sanctuary with the congregation and then leave either after Words for All Ages or at a designated point in the service.
